The Agrupamento de Escolas António Alves Amorim is a group of public schools that includes 6 preschools, 7 primary schools and a basic school with 2nd and 3rd cycles, where regular and articulate artistic teaching is offered. Enhancing a quality education for all students, implements multilevel projects, tutorials, mentoring and specific activities according to special needs, in conjunction with various entities. The school provides activities in the field of School Sports, cultural and environmental expression, as well as national and international projects, creating opportunities for formal and non-formal education that meet the student's profile when leaving compulsory schooling. As our Public Education Group offers free and compulsory education, the ages of our students vary between 3 and 15 years, a total of 1417 students, with an approximate distribution of 60% in pre-school and 1st cycle education and the rest in the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education. The vast majority of students live in the area of influence of the Group, come from a low middle socio-economic stratum, with sparse academic and social expectations and integrated into families with a very limited support network. The number of teachers is about 120 and non-teachers 130. Students reveal a passive profile in relation to learning, which is not consistent with the school's maximum objectives of educating for integral development, promoting a critical and participatory citizenship, which can only be achieved through their involvement and appropriation of the knowledge of the world and its potentialities; through participatory methodologies, which require the active involvement of students in the construction of knowledge and skills. Provided that our students are from the medium-low socio-economic level, they have a reduced number of opportunities for making necessarily informed choices, so the school must find ways to promote self improvement and broaden horizons, in order to develop their active citizenship. The responsible teachers for this project are effective elements of the school, more specifically the project coordinator and one of the teachers of science and mathematics. Although these teachers are responsible for the implementation of the project activities, all teachers are co-responsible, since interdisciplinary work is a common practice. Our school is experienced in international projects, with Erasmus projects on this and other topics, which have been successfully completed, which demonstrates our ability to work, adaptation (some of them adapted due to the Covid-19 pandemic) and with good relationship with partners, which has allowed the development of work networks, as this project is an example. This specific theme is one of the priorities of the educational project the school, so there are several initiatives in which we participate, whether local (SulDouro), National (Greencorck) and international (Eco-schools). The teacher of science and maths attended an Erasmus course KA1 about the topic STEM and she has a lot of experience in international exchange with teachers and students in etwinning projects. She also has experience in Erasmus projects and she is a reliable and hardworking teacher. The need for STEM appeared in the analysis of the results on mathematics and scienc e results in 75% of students. Thus, in the last three years, the results of students in mathematics and science have decreased by 2%, which was also observed in the results of national assessments. The students surveyed are no longer interested in math and science because they consider them very difficult and unattractive subjects.
