Fundación San Juan y San Pablo School is located in the city of Ibi, Alicante, a village with around 25000 people in the southeast of Spain. It is a school that includes different educational levels from pre-school education up to Secondary Level, finishing compulsory education at the age of 16, our institution covers all the stages required by the ministry of education regarding the mandatory years of learning. With a history that goes back to the early 50’s and more than 600 students in the last census, we can say that we work every day to offer a wide range of opportunities to our pupils but not only that, us, as teachers trying to challenge ourselves to find new ways of teaching and helping our students to produce the best from work from themselves. The school is located in Ibi, an industrial town in the interior of Alicante, only 35 kms from the capital city of the region, Alicante, 100 kms from Valencia and only 10 from Alcoy. Surrounded by mountains and mediterranean forests, our town is known all around the world for its toy industry which has evolved to the highest standards of quality thanks to the Technological Toy Institute, a renowned institution which sets the standards on toy production worldwide, also the evolution to plastic and matrix produced items and also a huge industry around the production of ice cream, no wonder why our village is called “The big factory”. With more than 50 years of experience in the educational field, Fundación San Juan y San Pablo School is a successful educational institution that strives to develop young people into ambitious, highly successful, happy and resilient youths and adults. We try to establish the best human relationships with our students, first because we believe that there is no point on trying to learn something from someone who you don’t respect or even have a good rapport, and second because our students when they become adults, and eventually have kids, trust our way of working and love the idea of having us to deal with their own little ones. A process which gets repeated over and over, and even some former students are nowadays part of our staff. We always have the feeling that our school is a big family where everyone enjoys being part of it and finds a safe place where they can develope their skills and abilities. We make learning enjoyable from reception at the age of 3 up to year 4 at secondary level at the age of 16 (4 ESO here in Spain). We have two lines on each level with a total of 60 teachers working at school. We all complete our curriculums with extra lessons such as ski trips, school gardens, cultural visits every term, international relationships even in primary school, special needs students visits and different workshops, supportive brunch or talks for families and teenagers among others. We also provide a challenging academic curriculum, coupled with a very supportive system that values the strengths and talents of the individual student. Regarding our students with difficulties in STEM subjects What we do to help them: At our school students who need support in STEM subjects usually have extra one-onone support, sometimes in or outside of the classroom with a teacher either specialised in the relevant subject area or else with the school learning support staff. It depends on the type of learning difficulty or support that they have. On occasions, students who have difficulties in Spanish or Maths for example, are taken out of classes in certain subjects so that they can have help on a more personal and direct level. Exams and tasks that these students undertake are always adapted appropriately according to their specific needs, whether it be reducing the length of the exam, the time that they are allowed to complete them or also a reduction in content or alterations in the format of the exam
